RECOIL/RECOIL TABLE | PRICE

The Aquila Muzzle Brake (see photos to the right)

Aquila has developed a brake that will fill virtually every situation, from heavy to light barrels contours, chambered in from Magnums to Ultra Magnums.  We developed and engineered our own brakes that we consider to be one of the best available.  These brakes remove the recoil factor, allowing the shooter to concentrate on the shot.

A secret about muzzle brakes, most brakes on the market work fine.  We feel that our 4th generation brakes work great due to a unique interior design that is engineered to take full advantage of expanding gasses to reduce the recoil and not effect accuracy.

Another important factor of the muzzle brake is the installation and the manufacturing process.  All of our muzzle brake work is done on a lathe so that all of the components are true and concentric with the bore.  If the barrel has to be cut down, the muzzle is machine faced and crowned so that the accuracy is not affected.

After we install our brake, there is no visible seam between the barrel and the brake.  The brake appears to be part of the barrel and is made from quality steel, to exact tolerances.

Please Note:

In order to do this, we have to refinish the barreled action in one of our finishes.  If it is stainless, we can either refrost it or polish the barreled action to a machined look.  The machine look requires extra work and this service costs $50.00.

Brakes can be custom machined to fit specific needs.

Take a moment to study the recoil table below.

Recoil

Top of Page

Felt recoil depends on many factors other than what is listed on this table, such as the shape of the stock, semi-auto vs. bolt action and/or a good butt pad. If you have looked at many of these tables, you will notice that I used hot loads to calculate the recoil. Comfortable recoil is really up to the shooter, but as a rule of thumb, 0 to 13ft lbs is comfortable and does not cause flinch. From 14 to 15 ft lbs is probably tolerable and may cause discomfort if you're target shooting all day. Anything above 15ft lbs should have a brake to make the rifle bearable to shoot.

This table should only be used as a guide to assist you in determining what options you may want on your rifle.
